The Aurora Borealis has been part of many tales over the centuries. The name Revontulet, that in Finnish means “Fox fires”, comes from an ancient Finnish myth, in which the lights were caused by a magical fox running and sweeping his tail across the snow spraying it up into the sky.
Auroras are the result of disturbances in the magnetosphere caused by the solar wind, in an area above the Equator, called Van Allen belt. Energized particles from the sun go down toward magnetic poles in spiral waves, so we can admire the Aurora Borealis and Australis.
