Human Settlements: Outskirts

Tablada de Lurin is a human settlement founded between the seven areas belonging to Villa Maria del Triunfo, one of the 43 districts that make up metropolitan Lima.
At the beginning of ‘900 there were small human settlements. Tablada de Lurin was born in the 60s as a result of migration from the Andes and from the Amazon.
The modernity of the 60s was mainly concentrated in Lima city. For those who did not have success in the Andes, for those living in large estates and wanted to try his luck in the city, Lima offered the maximum.
In the 80’s, another great migration invests Lima and also Tablada, not only for the search of modernity and the improvement of life, but also to seek refuge during an internal armed conflict: the war of the Shining Sendero against State Army.
What is Corona?
Corona was born occupying the last remaining spaces in the hills of Villa Maria of Triunfo, where the migrants fleeing from terrorism had settled. Remember other human settlements including Villa San Salvador.
What is Yachaywasy?
It is an association created in a context of migrants who speak Quechua. “Wasy” means house, “Yachay” means culture, wisdom, knowledge. Yachaywasy is the “House of Culture”.
The association is the need to create “spaces” where people can express their knowledge, their culture, and where we can offer culture and knowledge through teaching. Indeed Yachaywasy offers services such as kindergarten, after-school, medical center.
Especially the kindergarten was born to educate pre-school children, because during the years we have seen that many children, who came from the Andes and from the Amazon, when they began elementary school were expelled from the school system not having the bases of those who had formed the kindergarten. Therefore, today there is a great desire in children and adolescents to establish themselves, to feel “someone” to respond to the feeling of exclusion that they carry within.
The guiding principle that guides the association is to promote the development of spaces for reflection according to a community vision linked to meetings, the possibility of meetings, to communicate, to share problems and possible solutions.
Yachaywasy is based on the essence of the culture of the Andean Community, where the real wealth of the human being lies in having good relations with everyone and not so much in material goods.
